Archetypal Identity
For this series I examined the realtionship between archetypes and identity. I conducted extensive research into the meanings, histories and stories related to archetypes such as rain, metal, the eye, the egg, and the universe. In my research I began to focus on the details within nature, the connections between large and small. I was inspired by artists such as Kimiko Yoshida who aim to create self portraits that mask their identities so as to communicate larger realities and to begin to embody an identity larger than just the individual. And so, using various materials, projection, and digital collage, I created this series of photos that incorporate references to the archetypes. I was interested in the relationship between self-portraiture and disappearance. How can you disappear in representation of the self.
